Last month, Lawrence Stephens attended series of events during UK-India Week, from 24th-28th June. The week is dedicated to British-Indian trade and business relations. The 2019 UK-India Awards concluded the week by celebrating the biggest players in the sector.
Having participated in the opening event, India Day at the Houses of Parliament & Launch of UK-India 100 Most Influential on the 24th June, our Associate Solicitor and a part of the India desk, Rima Sengupta was invited by ICICI Bank to attend the 2019 UK-India Awards at The Grosvenor House Hotel on Friday 28th June. Rima works within our Corporate and Banking practice and has a specific focus on the Indian market. Rima is dual qualified in Indian and English law and has built her reputation by forming close relationships with a number of large Indian corporates and UK and Indian banks.
At the awards, Rima was invited to join the ICICI Bank’s table of distinguished individuals including Chief Financial Officer Aarti Sharma; Lok Nath Mishra, Chief Executive Officer, Vikashh Mehta of Corporate Banking; Head of Retail Banking Pratap Singh and Nishant Kumar, Senior Relationship Manager of Trade Finance and Syndication of Corporate Banking.
The evening also hosted speeches from the likes of HE Ruchi Ghanashyam Indian High Commissioner to the UK; Rt Hon Amber Rudd, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions; Tom Tugendhat MP Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Lord Jitesh Gadhia and founder of India Inc Group Manoj Ladwa.
We send our congratulations to client Axis Bank, who went on to win the Top Financial Organisation of the Year award. Prior to this activity, towards the end of May, Rima and the team from the Corporate Banking and Secured Lending, successfully assisted the Axis Bank in a lending deal with a UK company.
We would like to thank the organisers and attendees for their contribution to the week and commitment to connecting industry leaders from two of the world’s biggest financial hubs. We are confident the event has marked the beginning of many successful and longstanding relationships between the UK and India and are excited to see what the future holds.
