The new version of the CLC’s Site Operating Procedures reflected the governments easing of its guidance on lockdown which will apply from the 4 July 2020. The main change which contractors have been looking for is the “one metre plus” social distancing rule.

Given the government’s pledge to “build, build, build” and its own “Project Speed,” the construction industry is going to be integral to the re-awaking of the UK economy. We will need to wait and see which projects will be fast tracked but much will depend on how soon the revised infrastructure strategy and changes in the planning regime will be open for us all to see.

Whatever happens, this is good news for the industry and for our contracting clients, although given the PM’s comments on the end to “newt counting,” not great for the great crested variety.

We will be ready however, when our clients are, to do as we are being requested to do and speed the project.
